Thalasso, from the ancient Greek thalassa (θάλασσα), means “sea,” and also refers to a set of therapeutic practices based on the use of seawater and its components to promote health, well-being, and serenity. It is within this dual concept of the symbolic and the scientific, the physical and the emotional, that the works that make up the new and highly anticipated exhibition by Javier Torices (Madrid, 1968) in our gallery in Gijón are situated, his sixth monographic exhibition held in this space by the sea. For the artist, the ocean is not just another element of nature or a pictorial motif, it is an inner territory.
