Juan Díaz-Faes - Chacuatol

from July 4th to September 2nd

Titled Chacuatol, this is the first solo exhibition in Asturias by Asturian artist Juan Díaz-Faes, hosted at Aurora Vigil-Escalera Art Gallery in collaboration with Colección SOLO. The term chacuatol, from the Nahuatl language, refers to noise, disorder, and everyday chaos—a concept that perfectly captures both the spirit and the visual language of Díaz-Faes’s work. Through clean, dynamic lines and a restrained color palette, the artist creates vibrant compositions where every element—faces, everyday objects, or fantastical figures—seems to come to life.

With a background in Fine Arts and a creative journey influenced by comics, film, and illustration, Díaz-Faes’s style recalls artists like Keith Haring and Mr. Doodle, but with a distinctive personal touch. His work is defined by geometric shapes and an iconic, ambiguous smile that appears across his figures. Each piece invites multiple readings, like a comic strip where every corner hides a different story.

Chacuatol, on view from July 4 to September 2, 2025, in Gijón, features a diverse selection of works—resin sculptures, altered photographs, hand-illustrated recycled skateboards, and even a large mural on the gallery’s exterior wall. This exhibition highlights the international reach of the Oviedo-born artist, whose works have been shown in cities like Miami, Seoul, Paris, and Havana, and immerses the viewer in a vibrant universe where chaos becomes art.
