It is a pleasure to share with you the most recent work of the Barcelona artist Samuel Salcedo. A regular guest in our spaces in Gijón and Madrid, this will be his first monographic exhibition in the gallery under the title Esculturas (Sculptures).

For Salcedo, sculpture is a fundamental part of his life. Living creates, investigates, explores different influences, evolves, and the circle begins again. In his own words: “I consider my work to be very experiential and there are different facets of my life in my works. facets of my life in the works I do. Sometimes they have a more serious tone, others more poetic. It can also happen that a part of me asks for that gravity to be that gravity by using humor. I believe that confusion can help to explain many things. explain a lot of things. I don't like to feel that I'm doing an imposture work, but that it's part of who I am. that it's part of who I am.”

His studies and his first works were done around painting but, quickly, that restlessness and willingness to find new languages and ways of expression, led him to investigate techniques and materials that, in a short time, were completely detached from painting and became protagonists. Today sculpture represents the totality of his work and production. And yet, in his current work, we cannot fail to admire the incredible role that painting plays in the polychromy of many of his works. From the minute details in his human figures to the mimesis of other materials in true trompe l'oeil.

The exhibition ends, not in the gallery itself in Capua Street, but a few meters away, by the sea. Salcedo puts the finishing touch to his first monographic exhibition in Asturias with Needles and pins, a large cast iron sculpture that we have placed, in collaboration with the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Education and Popular University of Gijon, in the Nautical Gardens, which will be available to all viewers and passers-by until the closing of Sculptures, on Tuesday, July 1.
